Pathetic and worthless suggestion. The last thing the devs need to do is to waste time on a "story mode".

This idea worked extremely well for Vengeance..... owai.

But Maybe HiRez can put those newbies who made Vengeance to shame since they suck at single player campaigns.. owait.. those guys made System Shock, SS2, BioShock et al, and The T:V Campaign mode was actually pretty darn good, but the money spent on it (the bulk of the money spent on the game) is why it died a quick and painful death (much faster than ascend is).

Tribes wasnt made for single player campaign modes, its the best Multiplayer FPS ever made.

HIRez realized this hence no single player, but still desired to "Make it their own game" hence the current situation.

Simple, get rid of all hit-scan weapons and take Tribes back from the COD crowd.

True..
I really enjoyed the story/tutorial with the challenges etc..
T2 also had this and gave a newbie some idea of how to play and what is important etc..
IF this game had it from start it would have been very cool..but at this point totaly useless..

Did you just true quote my sarastic comment about TVs fail , primarily caused by them putting 90% of the time/mpney on the game into the singleplayer? While it was an OK singleplayer game, that was theprimary reason TV failed and sold 57k copies in the 1st 6 months.

Yes i did and meant it..
You seem to forget that allmost EVERY fps back in the day started as a SP

How can it be wrong to have a tutorial or storyline to get the new player interested and give him a helping boost in learning ??..

T.V failed for a lot of reasons..not just what you said..
Coming from T1/T2 i personally hated the game at start if only because it was a mutated version of a game i loved...adding that it was based on another game engine also gave one the feeling of a company out to make a fast buck.

But i did enjoy the story even in T.V because it was different than all the rat tat tat shooters out at that time..

So again to clarify ...having a story or tutorial is NEVER a loss to the game (as long as its done correctly ) .
TBH im installing both T2 and TV this weekend just to screw around with the stories...
Lately ive been replaying all my older FPS games..like halflife,chrome,S.O.F wolfenstein etc....

You missed my Point. It was obvious from the get go in T:V beta when they gave us the Disc at TribalWars LAN/TribesCon 6 that not enough time went into the MP side of the game. It was later admitted to by 1 of the developers KP (KineticPoet of T1 Team Imperial Elite fame who also created the Team Rabbit/Team Rabbit 2 gametype that came to be known as Ball and Netball), that one of the biggest problems with the game was the Cost and time sunk into the Single Player causing a lack of dev time and funds to make a good MP.

Was it a solid single player. YES. Was it a good tutorial to get people to leanr to ski, jet, etc. YES. Was it the Biggest barrier to the Multiplayer part of the game being Good. YES. They spent 90% of the time and money developing the SP campaign. Custom art used only 1 time, cut-scenes, and storyline writing/development all cost a buttload of money compared to Static repeatable Maps and Weaponry, and even physics code.

The point of this thread was:

Bearsssss wrote:
A very great way to gain new players and bring back old ones would be to make a co-op campaign mode. Make new co-op campaign only weapons. Best part is you wouldnt have to go through hell to do so. You all ready have all the coding. Just make new campaign maps and missions and sub plots and deep story.

And My reply was, 1 of the best SP game companies of all time (Still kicking out AAA Titles like BioShock Infinite) made a good SP campaign for tribes, and not only did the SP not sell the game (57k copies in 6 months compared with T2s 250k in the same timeframe) it also gutted the Multi-Player. It also took Year+ to develop that "solid" Single Player campaign.

I appreciate what the OP was trying to say, but was pointing out that his idea/vision is misguided. Byt he time it could be done, this game would be dead entirely and TA:2 could be coming out. Would i like TA2 to hgave a short tutorial/SP mode to teach newbies... sure. Not happening for TA though.

I don't think people realize how much time/effort/money goes into SP portions of MP games. Its not going to happen, and honestly it shouldn't for T:A. For T:A2 they should do some form of tutorials similar to what T2 had though. They were essentially very simplified SP missions, and not many of them. They did well to teach the basics of the game, and didn't take much of a players time. I played them to death when I couldn't get online (lol dial up).

I don't think anyone is against tutorials, its the idea of SP "campaign mode" that won't get support for a MP like Tribes. Imagine if HiRez had spent much if any time on a SP campaign... this game would have been worse then T:V.
