fusion mortar deluxe has a massive firing ranges, it has 99 problems but its range aint one :P

d stacking often happens in tribes cause its generally easier to pub d than pub o unless u have a team playing alot of o

ascend just exaggerates it cause deployables and snipers are so strong and each weapon has high dps compared to most other tribes games

Whitewhale and i spent a decent amount of time arguing in TA beta, but seem to wholeheartedly agree on the product after the fact.

This comes down to map design decisions IMO. No fog equals more effective snipers covering the whole of smaller maps which are all outdoor for the most part.

As far as deployables go, previous Tribes had bases with actual protected flags, either indoor flag placements or often some sort of natural protection or limitation slowing down direct access and movement of flags, Ascend is sped up greatly in almost every way. Bases had outdoor turrets and indoor motion sensitive shielded turrets in strategic locations which were often quite effective (unlike Ascend)....as long as the gen and in some cases secondary power was up the bases offered some viable defense on their own. How deployables are in Ascend seems to me to be an attempt to balance how easy the flag is to get at high speed as Ascend was designed from a map and movement perspective.

Funny thing to me is the most complained deployables, turrets, actually do little to stop cappers anyway (at least if they are moving at speed), they are highly vulnerable and weak and limited in their tactical deployment (lack wall and ceiling options). They are more helpful at slowing down attackers or finishing them off than anything else, on their own they do little unless en mass. Overall they simply slow down the game and interfere with base TDMing, and force people to play gens to effectively take out the defense. Things many of today's Ascend players simply don't want and even resent.
